PF-0305  Integration of Skills I:  Listening and Speaking

PF-0311 Professional Practicum

Description: The English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Practicum is the final required course in the Master’s Program in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It is a 12-credit course with eight lessons per week: two for the seminar, three for planning and research, and three lessons for teaching. This course seeks to help the students engage in reflective teaching and continue learning about their strengths and areas for improvement as teachers. The course will be run 100% virtually through the institutional platform Mediación Virtual.

PF-0318 English for Specific Purposes

Description: English for Specific Purposes is a required course for the master's degree in English. It is offered over one semester, three hours a week: approximately two hours of synchronous instruction and practice (via Zoom) and an hour of asynchronous online instruction and practice, plus nine hours of readings and other academic activities related to the weekly timetable of activities, with access to assignments and weekly updates through the Mediación Virtual platform. This course intends to provide students with an overview of the theoretical and practical principles in the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP).  The course will focus on the importance of ESP instruction for Costa Rican students pursuing careers that require academic studies in English, as well as for the workforce at both national and multinational entities that need to carry out international relations and commercial transactions.

PF-0306 English in its Social Context

English in its Social Context is an elective course in the M.A in TEFL Program. It is a four-credit course with three contact hours a week.  This course focuses on bilingualism, from theoretical and educational perspectives. Other topics will include language diversity, language identity, language ideologies, English varieties, and issues in language policy and politics.
