Dirigió el Programa de Ciencias Biomédicas con sede en la Escuela de Medicina de la UCR desde el 2006 al 2012, a partir de este último año y hasta mediados del 2016 se desempeñó como decana de Sistema de Estudios de Posgrado (SEP) de la Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR).
Tuvo participación como docente a nivel de grado en el Departamento de Bioquímica de la Escuela de Medicina y a nivel de posgrado en el SEP.

Estudios de caracterización de venenos de varios organismos, que incluyen peces, escorpiones y serpientes.
Investigación en temas de cáncer gástrico, principalmente en la caracterización de mecanismos de metástasis y en la búsqueda de sustancias para la sensibilización de los tumores a la quimioterapia.
